Dashlane vs 1Password: our comparison
Dashlane and 1Password are both premium password managers. The main difference: Dashlane bundles a VPN and dark web monitoring in one subscription; 1Password does not, but offers Travel Mode and the best family experience we have tested. We compared them on pricing, features and daily use.
Dashlane vs 1Password in short
Dashlane Premium is about 4 euros/month (billed annually) and includes unlimited passwords, all devices, dark web monitoring and Hotspot Shield VPN. 1Password Individual is about 2.74 euros/month but has no VPN or dark web scanning. So if you want one subscription for passwords + VPN + breach monitoring, Dashlane is the fit. If you want the smoothest apps and family sharing (up to 5 members, shared vaults), 1Password is better. 1Password Families is about 4.31 euros/month; Dashlane Friends & Family is about 6.05 euros/month for 10 members—the largest family pack we have seen.
What we tested
We used both on Windows, Android and in Chrome. Import from CSV worked well for both. Autofill was reliable; 1Password felt a bit faster on mobile. Dashlane's dark web monitoring flagged an old email we had forgotten; the VPN connected without fuss on public Wi‑Fi. 1Password's Travel Mode is unique: you can remove sensitive vaults from a device before a border, then restore later. Dashlane has no equivalent.
Who should choose Dashlane
- You want VPN and dark web monitoring in the same subscription. - You prefer a French company (GDPR-friendly). - You need a large family plan (10 members). - You are okay with the higher price for the bundle.
Who should choose 1Password
- You want Travel Mode and the most polished family experience. - You do not need a bundled VPN. - You prefer slightly lower cost for the individual plan. - You want the Secret Key and best-in-class apps.
Our verdict
Choose Dashlane if you want an all-in-one: passwords, VPN and dark web monitoring. Choose 1Password if you want the best family and solo experience and do not need a VPN. Both are secure; the choice is bundle vs polish.
