Password managers and iOS
On iPhone, a dedicated password manager integrates with the system autofill and can use Face ID or Touch ID to unlock. Your vault syncs across iPhone, iPad, and Mac (or Windows/Android) so you have the same logins everywhere. We tested 1Password, Bitwarden, Dashlane, NordPass, Proton Pass, LastPass, and RoboForm on iOS to compare autofill, Face ID, and overall usability.
How we tested on iPhone
We set each app as the password autofill provider in iOS settings and used it for at least two weeks. We tried Safari, Chrome, and in-app logins; we checked Face ID and PIN unlock, sharing with family (where applicable), and behaviour with iCloud Keychain disabled. We also verified encryption and that the provider cannot access your master password or vault content.
What matters on iOS
Reliable detection of login fields in Safari and in apps is essential. So is a smooth Face ID or Touch ID flow so you do not have to type the master password every time. If you use a Mac, cross-platform sync and a native Mac app (or a good web app) improve the experience. Passkey support is increasingly important for future-proofing.
Our iPhone picks
1Password and Bitwarden are our top picks on iPhone: both have solid autofill, Face ID, and sync. 1Password has a more polished interface and strong family features; Bitwarden is free and open source. Proton Pass and NordPass also work well. Choose 1Password for the best UX and family plan, Bitwarden for free and transparency, or Proton Pass for privacy and hide-my-email.
